Sunnah Acts to be done on Eid ul Fitr
After fasting the whole month of Ramadan, the day of Eid ul Fitr brings joy, happiness and blessings. The day brings smile on the faces of Muslims all around the world. Today we are going to know about the Sunnah acts to be performed on Eid ul Fitr. Let us know how our beloved prophet Muhammad SAWW celebrated this day and what should we do on this blessed day.
Eid ul Fitr is celebrated right after Ramadan. On the very first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal, Muslims celebrate this day and give thanks to Almighty Allah for His blessings.
This day brings solidarity, unity, brotherhood, cooperation and spiritual endowment among Muslims. They show gratitude to Allah SWT for getting countless blessings of Ramadan and granting them ability to keep fasts.
Therefore the Eid ul Fitr celebrations and Sunnah starts from the night of Eid.
To Make Dua on the Night of Eid ul Fitr
The night of Eid is called Laylatul Jaza (the night of rewards). Throughout the month of Ramadan we do our best to utilize every moment to get more and more blessings from Allah Almighty. So, in this night it is the time to seek more closeness of Allah Almighty. Everyone must pray in this night and make du’as.
Prophet Muhammad PBUH said,
“There are five nights on which du’a is not rejected. The first night of Rajab, the fifteenth night of Sha’aban, Thursday night, the nightbefore Eid ul Fitr and the night before Eid ul Adha”
We should also pray some additional prayers and make special du’as in this night.
Wake up Early in the Morning
It is the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad PBUH to wake up early in the morning on Eid day. Say Fajjar prayer and make ‘Ghussal’ (Sunnah way of taking shower) before Eid prayer. Wear on your best available clothes and apply some ‘Attar’ (perfume, fragrance).
Eating Dates
Before leaving house for Eid prayer on Eid ul Fitr day, Prophet Muhammad PBUH used to eat dates in an odd number. We can also eat any sweet dish before offering Eid prayer to break the fast in morning but eating dates is Sunnah.
Saying Takbir
Prophet Muhammad SAWW used to say Takbir in a soft voice while on the way to mosque for Eid prayer. Takbir words are,
“Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La Ilaaha Illallahu Wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar Wa Lillahil Hamd”
To Greet the Eid
After Eid prayer, Muslims greet each other with hug and a joyful smile on their face. They say ‘Eid Mubarik’ and exchange best wishes. The companions of Prophet Muhammad PBUH used to say these words to greet Eid each other.
“Taqabbal Allahu Minna Wa Minkw”
“May Allah accept (the fast and worship) from us and from you”
To Offer Eid Salah
To Eid prayer is Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAWW. It is the important part of Eid festivities. A companion of Prophet Muhammad SAWW narrated,
“The prophet of Allah PBUH used to offer the prayer of Eid ul Adha and Eid ul Fitr and then delivered Khutbah (Address to his followers) after the prayer”.
(Bukhari)
It is the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad PBUH to change the route while coming home from Eid prayer. A Sahabi, Jabir bin Abdullah narrates,
“On the day of Eid, the Prophet Muhammad SAWW used to return after offering Eid Prayer through a way different from that by which he went”
(Bukhari)
The logic and reason behind it is that on the Day of Judgment when everything is going to give evidence for our acts, two ways will testify that we have offered our Eid prayer.
Before saying Eid Prayer, we must be assured about we have paid the zakat of Eid ul Fitr that is called ‘Fitrana”.
May Allah SWT keep His joyful blessings upon us and accept our all good deeds and worships in the holy month of Ramadan. Ameen
