Sunnah Acts to Be Performed on Eid ul Adha

It was the night of 10th Dhul Hijjah, when Prophet Ibrahim A.S saw a dream to sacrifice his son Ismail A.S for the sake of ALLAH Almighty. In order to accomplish the command of Allah SWT, Ibrahim A.S took his son and a knife and went for the great sacrifice.

It was a hardest test of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son with his own hands. But his faith in Allah Almighty was greater than that. At the exact time of sacrifice an angel from ALLAH SWT was sent down with a sheep and Prophet Ibrahim A.S cut the throat of that sheep in the name of Almighty ALLAH.

To honor such a great sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim A.S, Muslims in all over the world celebrate Eid ul Adha on 10th of Dhul Hijjahj every year. They sacrifice an animal e.g. a goat, cow, camel or sheep to keep alive the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim and his great sacrifice.

In this article we will come to know about the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAWW to celebrate Eid ul Adha.

The festival of sacrifice is usually started from the 1st of Dhul Hijja. People start buying animals of their choice. We should also buy an animal before few days of Eid ul Adha and take care of them in a gentle way.

Here are some prominent Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAWW regarding Eid ul Adha.

Sunnah of Eid ul Adha

It is the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAWW to wake up early in the morning and offer Fajjar prayer. After offering prayer he PBUH used to be prepare for Eid prayer.

To do Ghussal (Sunnah way of taking shower), Miswaak your teeth and wearing your best available clothes is also the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAWW on Eid day.

Before leaving for Eid prayer Prophet Muhammad SAWW used to apply Attar (perfume) for fragrance. We should also do it.

Prophet Muhammad SAWW always tried to reach early to the place where Eid prayer was going to take place. We should also follow this Sunnah.

While going to mosque for Eid prayer, Prophet Muhammad SAWW used to recite Takbir in an audible voice. Takbir is,

اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ لَا إلَهَ إلَّا اللَّهُ. وَاَللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ وَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْدُ.

Prophet Muhammad SAWW always went from a long route to mosque for Eid prayer and returned from a different way to home. The purpose of this act is when on the Day of Judgment everything will be evident of our acts, both ways will testify that we offered our Eid prayer.

After prayer of Eid, to exchange Eid greetings is also a beautiful Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAWW. Muslims hug each other by saying ‘Eid Mubarik’.

Then on returning homes, Muslims sacrifice the animals for the sake of Allah Almighty.

They distribute the meat of animals among their relatives, neighbors, and needy people.

To celebrate the joyful event of Eid we should also follow the beautiful Sunnah of our Prophet Muhammad SAWW.  May Almighty Allah enable us all to fulfill His commands and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Ameen!
